The Best Way to Fix a Burst Pipe Fast And Easy

A burst pipe is not just an inconvenience, it can be a massive problem for your home; one that causes thousands of dollars of water damage. Burst pipes are common in the winter, because the water expands in the pipe as it freezes, putting stress on weak areas.

The best way to stop a small pinhole leak is to apply duct tape to the leaking area and then increase the pressure using a C-clamp or a rubber band. This is a temporary fix that should buy you time until a plumber can come to replace the pipe.

Bigger leaks can be repaired using a sleeve clamp. A sleeve clamp is two semicircular bits of metal that can be screwed into place around the pipe, clamping it shut. Simply place a piece of rubber over the leaking area and then screw the sleeve clamp into place to stop the leak.

For the really big leaks, it’s best to contact someone with plenty of experience in the field. Living in the Houston area, you can contact plenty of qualified water damage repair Houston businesses.

This can be a long-lasting repair, but again it is better to replace the whole pipe because if there is a leak in one area then there is a high chance that some other parts of the pipe could also be weak and about to start leaking.

Fixing My Flooded Basement: How To Do It Easily

I was recently able to buy my own house and had a basement for the first time. After a major storm, my basement flooded due to nearby water run-off. Because the flooding was not extensive, I was able to fix the problem myself. I’ll explain how below.

I did not have my own sump pump, so I made some calls to find out where to rent one at an inexpensive price. I found one quickly at one of the home-improvement stores in my area. After picking up the pump, I was told that I needed to make sure that the electrical outlet I would be using to run the pump was dry before using it. The water level was many inches away from all the outlets, so that wasn’t a problem. The sump pump worked like a dream and was easy to use.

The most important step

After the standing water was cleared out, it was time to dry out the basement. I did this by opening all of the windows to help promote air circulation and get some sunlight in there. This was very important so that I wouldn’t end up with trouble due to mold.

As you can see, the whole process was rather painless and easy to deal with. If you have extensive flooding, it’s a good idea to call in professionals to do the work. You don’t want to cause more damage to your basement by not getting expert opinions and help, if you don’t know what you’re doing.
