General Information

Prion 2007 will be held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, Edinburgh, Scotland 26 - 28 September 2007. More than 700 delegates from Europe and the rest of the world are expected to meet to exchange ideas and discuss advances in Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (Prion Disease).

Certificates of Attendance
An official Certificate of Attendance will be provided for all registered delegates.

Climate
September is the beginning of Autumn in Edinburgh and although the weather can be pleasant in this month, delegates should be prepared for rainfall. The average temperature is 16oC.

Industry
Industry will play a major part in the delivery of the Congress and companies in the field are actively encouraged to take part in the event and, indeed, to contribute to the scientific programme.

Insurance
The registration fees do not include the insurance of participants against personal accidents, sickness, cancellations by any party, theft, loss or damage to personal possessions. Participants are advised to take out adequate personal insurance to cover travel, accommodation, cancellation and personal effects.

The language of the Congress is English

Letters of Invitation
Delegates requiring a letter of invitation to attend the Congress should write to the Congress Organisers. Please note that a letter of invitation will be provided to assist delegates in obtaining a visa or permission to attend the Congress and should not be considered as an official invitation covering fees and other expenses.

Location
Edinburgh, the “Athens of the North”, is one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Its long history is reflected in its beautiful buildings, not least the famous castle, the new Scottish Parliament Building and the sweeping Georgian terraces of the New Town. Rich in culture, Edinburgh also has an abundance of art galleries, museums and theatres, all within walking distance of the venue. To complement the cultural side, the city also offers a wide selection of restaurants, bars and shops, right beside the EICC. A valid passport is required for entry into the United Kingdom. Please consult the British Consulate nearest to you for specific details and visa requirements.

Transportation
Edinburgh is easily accessible by road, rail and air. Edinburgh International Airport is on the west of the city, 7 miles from the city centre. Taxis are available from the airport to the city centre and should cost approximately £15.00 and the journey time is approximately 20 minutes. Frequent bus services run between the airport and Waverley Bridge (next to the main railway station) in the city centre. Edinburgh is also well served by the mainline east coast rail route, from London Kings Cross, with services taking approximately 4 hrs 45 mins. The motorway network is also easily reached, with the M8 joining with the M73/74 to provide a link to the South.

Venue
The venue for this Congress is the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC), a state-of-the-art purpose built Conference centre located at the heart of Scotland’s capital city. There is wheelchair access throughout the building. All meeting rooms have advanced communication technology, and are fully staffed by professional support personnel.
