Congress Chair and Chair of Scientific CommitteeDear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Scottish TSE Network (STN) I am pleased to be able to invite you to join us in Edinburgh for Prion 2007.
There are a number of groups in the Edinburgh area and throughout Scotland who are very active and at the forefront of TSE research. In 2004 we joined together to create the STN and we now maintain a series of regular meetings, workshops and symposia through which we can share our work and ideas and form strong local collaborations.
We are now inviting you to join us here in Edinburgh for Prion 2007. The historic city of Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities in the World and it provides a magnificent back-drop to the congress. Prion 2007 will be held at the centrally located Edinburgh International Conference Centre which provides first class facilities whilst retaining easy access to the delights of the city. The gala dinner will be held at the Royal Museum of Scotland and we will be inviting you to join us there for an informal ceilidh.
Of course the main purpose of the congress is for us to discuss the latest research being carried out in the field of Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSE) research and Prion disease. The Scientific Programme will be attractive to scientists and researchers with an interest in TSEs. State of the art lectures, workshops, poster sessions and other forms of presentation will be included. The diverse meeting schedule will cover contemporary topics in Prion Disease, always with an emphasis on research data. The aim is to provide the conference delegates with an opportunity to hear about the latest international research in a diverse range of subject areas within the field of TSE research. Scientific sessions will be organised that will cover subjects that are important in the TSE field such as Strains: Natural and Experimental, Protein Misfolding, Pathology and Pathogenesis, Diagnosis and Therapeutics and Epidemiology, Risk Analysis and Transmission. dditionally, following on from the success of the 2006 meeting, a separate Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) workshop will be held to address the issues of this emerging epidemic. The International Plasma Fractionation Association will also be holding a breakout session following their successful meeting at Prion 2006.
There will be a number of invited speakers from throughout the field and we are aiming to make this congress a great opportunity for young scientists at the start of their careers to speak and present their work too.
